There's an APP for That!

Check the UV level for your location any time of the day with the EPA's UV Index App.  Available for Mobile Web, iPhones, Blackberries, and Android phones.  This app will tell you what your current UV Index is and what that means for how you can protect your skin from sun exposure.

Also, check out this link (Sunwise UV Index) on what the different levels of the UV Index means for you.  Or print this version to post in your house or classroom.

Making it BIG!

Project SASS is now being offered for credit to University of Arizona students!  Get hands-on health promotion experience and involvement with Tucson community events while fulfilling credit requirements for your degree.  The class is available for 1 or 2 credits and for undergraduate or graduate students.  Contact Aimee (wiggs@email.arizona.edu) to find out more information about how to register.

Bake Cookies....Not your skin!

Project SASS will have a cookie stand near Speedway and Campbell for the Tour de Cookie (click here for more information on the event or visit their Facebook page) on February 12 from 9am to 12pm.  This is a 12 or 25 mile bike cruise around 10 cookie stands in central Tucson.  For the $40 entrance fee, participants receive $25 in cookie credits to get their fill at the various cookie stands.

Project SASS knows that participants in this event will also need to refill on sunscreen during this 3 hours of fun in the sun.  Register for this race and visit the Project SASS cookie stand to *nom nom* on some delicious goodies, including pumpkin cupcakes and no-bake oatmeal cookies, and reapply your sunscreen.

If you want to join the Project SASS/Keller William Cycling Team, you can get a $10 discount.  Email Aimee (wiggs@email.arizona.edu) for more information.

What's the Word?

Project SASS (Students are Sun Safe) is a program offered by the University of Arizona Skin Cancer Institute for middle and high school students.  It aims to enhance sun safe behaviors and skin cancer awareness in the Tucson community.

University of Arizona students from various departments (Public Health, Pharmacy, Education, Medical, Nursing, etc) are trained by the Skin Cancer Institute to present Project SASS at schools and at community events.

Presentations take about 60 minutes and include hands-on activities.

To invite Project SASS to your school or community events, email Eden (eellison@email.arizona.edu) or Aimee (wiggs@email.arizona.edu).
